Hey There! Tell us about yourself!

How did you get started in Photography?
My name is Jussara and I am a custom newborn and child photographer based in Maryland, who enjoys documenting little ones while putting an artistic spin on it. I'm a wife and a mom. My family is my inspiration and my rock.

I love coffee, Italian food and chocolate. Bring me some and I'll be your friend for life! I am an incurable optimist by nature, I believe in God, being yourself, and I love to laugh.

I had a fascination with photography growing up, and I developed a passion for child photography and got started much like every other mom who does photography: taking pictures of my own baby. I established Sugarloaf Photography in the summer of 2011 and I am eternally grateful that this path has opened up for me. I am so thankful to have been invited into so many families to capture memories that they will have for a lifetime. As a mom, I know that our babies grow up too quickly, and moments pass too fast, so it gives me great joy to spend time with my clients, documenting these precious moments for them to hold onto forever.

What Inspires You or how do you find Inspiration?
My daughter is my biggest inspiration. When she was little, I did a 365 days photo project with her and those real, raw images are still my favorite images of her as a toddler. I took the time to photograph her little milestones. Now I can always look back, cherish and relive those treasured moments. Capturing the essence of the baby, child or the emotional connection they have with their loved ones became my goal, and is what I love to do and what I aim to capture in every session.

On a typical shoot, what might we find with you?
What's in your bag?

I'm pretty basic when it comes to gear. In my camera bag you'll find my camera Nikon D750, a Nikon 85mm 1.8 lens, a Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART lens, a Nikon 105mm 2.8 lens and a Nikon Speedlight

How would you describe your style?
Relaxed, directed posing, colorful and bold would probably define my style. I don't use a beanbag for newborns. I like to use buckets, props and I love a good styled session.

What is the best piece of advice you have received during your career?
Believe in your work. If you don’t value it, nobody else will.
When I was in my portfolio building phase, I charged very little for a session because I wanted to shoot a lot of sessions to gain experience. I’d get very apprehensive every time I had to I raise my prices to cover the investments in my business (i.e. new equipment, professional training, props, etc.) But the truth of that matter is that, adjusting the value of my work based on my experience, my talent and business expenses, was the single most essential thing I did to be able to grow as a photographer. It gave me just what I needed to become better at what I do.
